Details
About South Sister: “The South Sister, also known as Charity, is Oregon’s third highest mountain. The hike to the top is very difficult, but fairly easy as far as climbing mountains can go, as there is indeed a trail that goes all the way to the top and can be done without any technical mountain climbing gear.

The hike can easily be done in a day, and usually takes between 7 and 10 hours round trip. The hike to the top is about 6 and a quarter miles long (12 round trip) with a 4900 feet elevation gain. ” — Everytrail.com

When: Saturday August 23rd- Sunday August 24th. We’ll be meeting at the Devil’s Lake Trail Head Saturday afternoon and camping there, leaving on our hike early Sunday morning.

Group Training Hikes
Here’s where it gets good. My good friend and trusted associate Alissa, of Alissa Lesperance Fitness and Yoga (out of The Refinery) is ALSO hosting a hike club this summer, with her group taking on Mt Adams July 12th and 13th. (Email Alissa if you’re interested in that climb, she’s limiting spaces to 10). We’ll be doing some our our training hikes together to make it EVEN MORE FUN.
Here’s the training schedule we’ll be following for South Sister (all hikes will be in the morning, but we’ll determine meeting/carpooling/times at a later date):
*May 4th: Hamilton Mountain (Washington side of the Gorge)
*June 1st: Devil’s Peak (or a connecting hike, Hunchback Trail, depending on snow; out of Zig Zag/Mt Hood)
*June 22nd: Ruckel Ridge (from Eagle Creek Trailhead in the Oregon Gorge. This is a tough one, see here http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Ruckel_Ridge_Loop_Hike
July 27th: Mt Defiance (Oregon Gorge, another toughie http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Mount_Defiance_from_Columbia_River_Hike)
*Training hikes combined with Alissa’s group
If you’re interested in even more hikes, you can drop in on Alissa’s group training hikes (that I’m not doing) for $10 per hike:
May 11th: Dog Mountain (Washington Gorge)
If you want to do Mt Adams July 12/13th, get in touch with Alissa immediately to join her hiking club and secure your spot.
Questions?
That’s all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, let me know. This is going to be fun. We always have a blast.
